aaing j gni aa, 1965 (cloth, paint, plastic and plaster). Previously Flanagan had considered the component parts to be individual works and photographed them separately. It was shown at Better Books, Charing Cross Road, London alongside John Sharkey’s magic poem, 1965. This was the first time Flanagan grouped separate elements together. He said it was the taped line on the floor that completed the work. Photographed here when it was on loan to Jasia Reichardt in her hallway. Covering the window is a 1965 roller painting by John Latham, who taught at St Martins School of Art and with whom Flanagan had an exhibition in Bagnor, Wales during the summer of 1965. In 1969 aaing j gni aa was acquired by the Tate Gallery, London.
